As a result of the February 5, 2008 California Presidential Primary, El Cerrito and Kensington's Congressional District (the 10th) will send three Clinton-pledged delegates (two women and one man) and two Obama-pledged delegates (one woman and one man) to the national convention in Denver in August 2008. These delegates are selected by vote at local caucuses.

Anyone who fills out an application with the California Democratic Party and is approved by the Obama or Clinton campaign can run for delegate. Winning delegates are determined by vote at caucuses on April 13th at 4pm held by each of the campaigns in each of the Congressional Districts. Voters at the caucus must be registered democrats in the District.

Some ECDC members note that "typically, in the past, the winning delegate for the 10th Congressional District has come from Lafayette, Moraga or points further east. Perhaps now is the time to send a delegate to the Democratic National Convention from El Cerrito or Kensington." One ECDC member running to be an Obama delegate is Bill Wright of Kensington. He indicates that he "I went to New Hampshire in January and knocked on doors and talked to voters" for Senator Obama. "And in spite of the vague language in the rules, I will not change my vote unless directed by one person: Barack Obama himself. If you’re interested in making sure that Obama delegates remain Obama delegates, please contact me," urges Wright. You can contact him at billwright@pipline.com and he can provide details about the April 13th caucus.
